The Diamond A2 from Wharfedale are active wireless floorstanding speakers that have a separate control hub to control the power and the sources. Wharfedale are not the first company to produce wireless powered speakers but most others require a cable to connect the active speaker to the passive one. The Wharfedale A2 uses a new proprietary 16.5cm woven Kevlar cone mid - Low Frequency driver for a deep bass paired with a 25mm fabric dome tweeter, to ensure crystal clear highs full of detail. An optimised crossover gives you an immersive, bold and cohesive performance.

Irrespective of if you wish to connect to these speakers with a digital optical, coaxial or RCA-phono input, the H1 hub has you covered. Plus, with Bluetooth aptX capability these speakers allow for wireless streaming. Plus, a bass adjustment feature means you can tune these speakers to your room. The mono mode allows the speakers to be placed in different rooms for a very basic multi-room system. The A2's are separately powered by their own 50W amplifier ensuring a consistent and fully optimised stereo sound.

The A2's use the H1 wireless hub to transmit left and right channel signals to the respective speaker. Therefore they are not tied together and can be placed anywhere in a room.

The H1 hub supports 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz frequency bands, which can be switched to either in order to maintain a stable speaker connection. The speakers must be kept within a 20m radius of the hub and near a power socket for mains power connection.

I was struck by just how dynamic and well-sorted they made the music sound. Active operation pays dividends with the pace, pinpoint timing and general sense of scale it brings. You'd be hard pressed to assemble a selection of separates that can match it in terms of sonic ability or ease of use at anywhere near the price.
