These Platinum Edition KRK Studio Monitors are NOT just a regular pair of ROKIT-5-G3's with a platinum finish. They are MECHANICALLY DIFFERENT FROM (& superior to) any other studio monitors made by KRK. As an anniversary edition, KRK released an ultra premium, limited line of platinum monitors with very expensive updates to the drivers; the internal build, & more. It also uniquely features silica gel mats on the underside of the monitor for better sound without the rattle. The most expensive advancement was kept secret; only introduced in this rare AE model, a change to the cone's material & to the glue they use to seal them was expensive to develop. KRK stated that this material is proprietary, & that the AE's will be the only model ever to feature this. It "allows you to push them to maximum loudness without ever getting distortion".
